Peak Dynasty and Emperor Kangxi’s Grand Ceremony is the world’s first large-scale outdoor live-action performance themed around imperial culture, dramatizing the legendary life of Emperor Kangxi (r. 1662-1722) of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Set against the Yuanbao Mountain, the show utilizes its unique Danxia landform and surrounding mountain ranges as a natural backdrop. The production draws upon the natural and cultural heritage of Chengde, incorporating historical context and imperial cultural elements from the golden era of the Qing Dynasty. Through immersive high-tech sound, lighting and visual effects, the audience is emotionally transported across centuries to experience Emperor Kangxi’s grand historical journey — from the construction of the Mountain Resort (Bishu Shanzhuang) to the consolidation of China’s territorial integrity.

Audiences can feel the profound spirit of the emperor: his ambition to unify the nation, his encounters with rival powers, his yearning for the charm of southern China, and his visionary dreams born amid the idyllic landscapes of the Mountain Resort.

The performance is divided into six chapters: Prologue, The Empire, Innate Nature, Divine Inquiry, Sounds of Heaven and Epilogue. With its magnificent scale, grand artistic vision, and sweeping narrative, the show vividly brings to life the height of the Qing Dynasty and the extraordinary legacy of Emperor Kangxi — emphasizing his profound impact on Chinese history and his contributions to world civilization.
