Notes:
This performance is not open to audiences under the age of 16.

Sleep No More is a production adapted from Shakespeare’s classic Macbeth, created by the British theatre company Punchdrunk. This immersive show emphasizes dance and physical performance, blending noir-style storytelling with cinematic aesthetics. During the performance, audience members are free to choose their own paths, either becoming “invisible” observers by donning masks or roaming through the space at will.

The Shanghai edition of Sleep No More has been reimagined with a fresh narrative, setting the story in the 1930s Shanghai. The central venue is a fictional hotel called the “McKinnon”. Throughout the entire performance, the cast delivers no spoken lines. Instead, multiple storylines unfold in parallel and interweave through evocative movement. The powerful physical performances combined with film-quality set design offer a fully immersive, sensory-rich experience.

Within the McKinnon Hotel’s 90 intricately designed rooms, crimson velvet curtains fall precisely on cue, and glamorous jazz-era women in qipao glide into view. Alone and masked, each audience member floats like a ghost, drifting from scene to scene as haunting basslines and piano chords guide them through a surreal three-hour dreamscape.
