Nobody, this summer's Chinese animation box-office hit, isn't just about whimsical adventures, but also a stunning showcase of Shanxi's ancient architecture. The Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) Yong'an Temple in Hunyuan county, Datong, Shanxi province is a breathtaking example. Inside its main hall, richly colored murals of the Shuilu Fahui (Water and Land Dharma Assembly) – animated as a mysterious map in the film – are sacred masterpieces that reveal how people centuries ago understood and expressed their faith.
