A new exhibition at Shanghai Museum East brings Guyuan to the spotlight. The city in northwestern China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region used to be a strategic stronghold and intersection of cultures.

More than 300 artifacts are exhibited, dating from the 11th century BC to the 900s. Among them is a studded glass bowl, a gilded silver ewer and murals from 1,000 years ago. They witnessed the flourishing Silk Road and reflected the convergence of diverse civilizations.
