Located at 17 Gangzhong lu, Xingang town, Dongyuan county, Heyuan city, the Wanlyu Lake Scenic Area is a must-visit destination in Guangdong province.
Some 200 hundred kilometers away from Guangzhou and 180 km away from Shenzhen, the scenic area is known as the "back garden" of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and boasts more than 360 green islets and 1,100 square kilometers of rolling green mountains.
Wanlyu Lake Scenic Area is named for its lush greenery throughout the year –“Wanlyu” means “endless greenness”.
Since its development for tourism in 1995, the scenic area has expanded to include attractions such as Shuiyue Bay, Longfeng Island and the Hakka Culture Museum, covering a total area of 11.5 sq km. In 2020, it won the title of “China’s Natural Oxygen Bar” and in December 2024 it was designated as a national AAAAA-level tourist destination by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
In the scenic area, visitors can admire the layered peaks and cascading waterfalls, listen to rustling pine trees and chirping birds and enjoy the tranquil and unspoiled wilderness.
With a year-round water temperature of 19–23 C, Wanlyu Lake is perfect for water activities. The lake area is seldom affected by typhoons, ensuring calm waters. Throughout the day, as the sunlight changes, the color of the water shifts from deep green to pale hues, earning the lake the reputation of “Jade Pool in heaven, Wanlyu Lake on earth”.
