Magnolia blossoms are quietly arriving in North China. This Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) white jade vase captures a magnolia in initial bloom using round carving techniques. Seven plump, pure white petals stretch upward gracefully, forming the shape of a flower receptacle. Below the blossom are carved two tender buds, its branches and leaves, adding to the sense of natural beauty.

Now housed in Shenyang Imperial Palace Museum, this masterpiece freezes a fleeting spring moment in time forever.
