Today marks the Spring Equinox (chun fen, Chinese: 春分) – the moment when day and night stand in perfect balance and flowers bloom in abundance.
Just as the Song Dynasty (960-1279) fan painting of peach blossoms from the Palace Museum's collection depicts, red and white blossoms intertwine gracefully. Though the painting depicts only two branches, the clusters of buds and blossoms burst with a rich sense of spring's arrival.
