We mourn the passing of Chu Shibin (1937-2025), former director of Gansu Provincial Museum, renowned archaeologist, bamboo and wooden slip expert. He passed away in Lanzhou on March 2, at the age of 88.
Chu Shibin is best known as the man who re-named the iconic "Bronze Running Horse", the most potent artifact of the museum and the prototype of the symbol of China's tourism. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to field archaeology, historical research and the study of ancient slips, making extraordinary contributions to Gansu's cultural preservation and museum development.
