Have you heard about the opening of the Taosi Relics Site Museum in Shanxi? Here is a clay drum unearthed from the Neolithic Taosi site, one of the earliest known drum artifacts in China. With a gourd shape, the drum features cord motifs around its belly, vertical handles on both sides and a ring of 11 round knobs around its neck.

In Taosi society, clay drums like this blended with other instruments to form a comprehensive music system, representing the origin of traditional Chinese music. Now, this incredible artifact is housed at Shanxi Museum.
