SHANGHAI -- Chinese procuratorial agencies are called on to step up their efforts in work relating to foreign affairs, in a bid to better serve the needs in maintaining security and building a better business environment.

The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) on Thursday held a national meeting on foreign-related procuratorial work, the first meeting specially held on the issue by the SPP.

SPP Procurator-general Ying Yong said in his speech that the capabilities and quality of foreign-related procuratorial work should be enhanced to leverage judicial efforts to serve the country's diplomacy, national security and opening up.

Noting that safeguarding the country's political security should be a top priority in foreign-related prosecutorial work, Ying said it is necessary to ensure the security of China's state power, systems, and ideology with relevant work.

Also, efforts should be made to continuously strengthen international law enforcement and judicial cooperation in the security domain to jointly combat transnational crimes, and collaborate in international anti-corruption efforts to hunt down corrupt suspects at large and recover relevant assets, Ying said.

Moreover, Ying required strengthened work to support the building of a market-oriented and law-based business environment in keeping with international standards, noting that businesses of various types, including both domestic and foreign companies, should be put under equal protection in accordance with the law and transnational economic crimes should be strictly punished.
