On the afternoon of Nov 9, at the periphery of the 220 kilovolt Xiahu substation in Lixian county, Anhui province, the Transmission Operation and Inspection Center of the State Grid Bozhou Power Supply Company successfully installed the "Ice Watching Fairy" device, an intelligent ice monitoring device for transmission lines, on the 220kV Boxia 4V12 line. It is the first time that such installation has been done in Bozhou, with the aim of enhancing the stability and safety of transmission lines during the "winter peak" period.
The company has placed great emphasis on the equipment installation project, having made meticulous preparations and arrangements in advance. To successfully carry out the operation, they capitalized on the valuable time window preceding the onset of winter rain, snow and frost, installing the "Ice Watching Fairy" on critical line nodes susceptible to icing. The new equipment serves as a loyal "guardian", capable of conducting round-the-clock remote real-time monitoring of line icing conditions.
The devices are capable of transmitting captured photos and videos and monitor data in real-time to the backend system via an advanced communication network. Operation and maintenance personnel can effortlessly monitor the line's operational status from their office without the need to visit the site. In the event the ice thickens nearing the dangerous threshold, the system promptly triggers an alarm, prompting the operation and maintenance personnel to take prompt actions to ensure the safe and stable operation of the line.
In the near future, the company plans to install four sets of "Ice Watching Fairy" on the 220kV Moqi 4N23/4N24 line, 500kV Mokong 5339 line and Pingmo 5303 line in the Bozhou area. This will further enhance the safety operation guarantee of transmission lines in the area during the winter peak load period, ensuring a stable and reliable power supply for the people of Bozhou.
