Cultural promotion campaign for Qinling Mountains launched

The "Let the World See the Qinling Mountains" - Qinling Ecological Environment Protection Calligraphy, Painting, Photography and Cultural Promotion Activity (2024-25) was launched on Oct 24 in Baoji city, Northwest China’s Shaanxi province.

The event aims to mobilize all sectors of society to actively engage in ecological protection and the promotion of Qinling culture, encouraging more people to focus on Qinling, share it with the world and support its global recognition. The Qinling Mountains, located in Central China, form a natural boundary between the north and south of the country and serve as a dividing line for geographic, climatic and resource variations. The distinct differences in temperature, climate and terrain between the north and south of Qinling hold significant ecological importance.

The Qinling Mountains hold an important position in Chinese culture and history. Known as the "dragon vein" of Chinese civilization, the main peak of Mount Qinling, named Taibai, has an elevation of 3,771.2 meters and is located in Baoji city, Shaanxi province. The northern and southern regions of the Qinling Mountains were significant in early Taoism and Buddhism, with Mount Hua in the Qinling range being one of the earliest centers of Chinese Taoism. The Qinling Mountains also have abundant wildlife and plant resources, including rare species such as giant pandas and snub-nosed monkeys.

Guo Jianshun, director of the Qinling Mountain Office of the Development and Reform Commission of Shaanxi Province, stated at the launch ceremony that the event aims to showcase the Qinling Mountains to the world, encourage greater public involvement in their protection, and take the lead in preserving them.

“We must take action to effectively serve as the ecological guardians of the Qinling Mountains, ensuring that the beautiful landscapes, green mountains, and flowing waters of the Qinling Mountains endure forever.” Guo said.

The event will run until July 2025.

Through various activities — including a collection by renowned artists, a college student calligraphy and painting competition, a short video competition, a rare animal and plant photography competition and the Dialogue with Qinling interview program — the event will comprehensively showcase the magnificent scenery, cultural heritage, rich ecology, and conservation achievements of the Shaanxi section of the Qinling Mountains from multiple perspectives.
