Editor's note: China took a significant step in environmental conservation by establishing its first five national parks in 2021, covering 230,000 square kilometers and protecting nearly 30 percent of the country's key terrestrial wildlife species. These parks—Sanjiangyuan, Giant Panda, Northeast China Tiger and Leopard, Hainan Tropical Rainforest, and Wuyi Mountain—highlight China's dedication to preserving its biodiversity.

With a growing number of flagship species and improved ecosystem diversity, China continues to advance in national park construction. In September 2024, a draft law on national parks was submitted for review, further solidifying the nation's commitment to environmental protection.
