BEIJING - Driven by a surge in demand for cross-border tourism, China is projected to see 1.75 million inbound and outbound trips per day during the upcoming National Day holiday period, up 18.5 percent year-on-year, authorities said on Friday.

Traffic peaks are expected to fall on Oct 1 and Oct 6, the National Immigration Administration (NIA) said, adding that passenger flow is climbing at major international airports, while remaining high at land ports adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao.

The NIA has asked border officers to strengthen their monitoring of traffic and port operations and to release traffic updates early to help travelers plan their trips.

Additionally, guidance and organization will be enhanced, with sufficient personnel deployed and extra inspection lanes opened to accommodate the surge, according to the NIA.

China celebrates its National Day on Oct 1. The holiday runs from Oct 1 to Oct 7.
