This statue of a seated Lord Wenchang, the deity of culture and literature, is a masterpiece by renowned Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) ceramic sculptor He Chaozong (1522-1600) from Dehua, Fujian province. Famed for his skill in sculpting Taoist and Buddhist figures, He had a unique talent for capturing their grace, serenity and solemnity.

Dehua ceramics, celebrated worldwide for their pure white glaze, earned the name "Blanc de Chine" for their pristine beauty. This exquisite work is now housed at the Fujian Museum.
