Back to school! A new semester begins! As students head back to class, let’s take a look at the lively scenes of an ancient Chinese classroom.

In this painting by Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) artist Qian Hui’an (1833-1911), children are depicted playing games, practicing martial arts on a desk and enjoying their break time. The old master takes a rest amid piles of books, brushes and inkstones, creating a scholarly atmosphere.

This piece, housed in the Tianjin Museum, might just bring back memories of your own school days. Do you feel nostalgic for those classroom moments?
