Check out this extraordinary bronze tiger from the Shang Dynasty (c.16th century-11th century BC). With fierce gaze, open mouth revealing sharp fangs, two curved tails and a bird perching on its back, the tiger boasts a powerful and majestic essence. Its crouching stance conveys a readiness, embodying its mystical nature and the ancient reverence for this formidable creature.

Unearthed in 1989 from the Dayangzhou Shang Dynasty tomb in Xingan, Ji’an, Jiangxi province, this is the largest pre-Qin bronze tiger in existence, and is now housed in the Jiangxi Provincial Museum.
