The 2024 lotus festival of Chenggong district in Kunming, Yunnan province, commenced on July 10 in the Jiangwei residential community, which is an ideal spot for admiring the flower in bloom and experiencing the unique agricultural culture of the Dianchi Lake area.
This year's festival has attracted around a thousand tourists and features four main activities: A carnival, a banquet, a natural scenery tour and an ink painting exhibition.
Visitors can savor the "Four Treasures of Jiangwei" – corn, potatoes, rice and lotus – while strolling along the expansive lotus ponds. The festival showcases a space-breeding variety and two rare wild varieties of lotus, with a blooming period that lasts for around 75 days.
In recent years, the Jiangwei residential community has taken significant steps to protect Dianchi Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Yunnan. Residents have strictly adhered to the "10-year fishing ban" regulations, voluntarily ceased vegetable and flower planting, and shifted to clean crop cultivation.
Additionally, Jiangwei has developed a tourism industry that integrates agri-entertainment, leisure tours and eco-tourism. This has attracted an increasing number of tourists to enjoy the scenic views and local cuisine.
