The Qinggeda Lake Tourist Resort covers a total area of 45 square kilometers, bordered by the Tianshan Mountains in the south and the Gurbantünggüt Desert in the north. It is a precious natural scenic spot between the desert and the mountains, and is the closest water-based tourist attraction to Urumqi, the captial city of Xinjiang.

Qinggeda means “water of the gods” in Mongolian and the lake is one of the birthplaces of military reclamation culture. The lake was once a reservoir, Mengjin, which was built by soldiers under the command of General Wang Zhen (1908-93) to provide agricultural irrigation. Since 1985, the reservoir has been transformed and, through continuous improvement of the service environment and infrastructure, it has gradually become a well-known water conservancy tourist scenic spot.

Qinggeda Lake covers an area of 36 square kilometers, including 17 square kilometers of water surface, 9 square kilometers of wetland area and 10 square kilometers of forest. It is a national-level water conservancy scenic spot, a provincial-level nature reserve, a national 4A-level tourist attraction and a national tourism service standardization demonstration zone.

The resort is rich in attractions, which include red tourism sites, places of military, historical and cultural significance, Silk Road sites, abundant wetland, agricultural land and the stunning Tianshan scenery.

The landscape layout of the resort combines the geographical features of the majestic Tianshan Mountains and the natural scenery of the desert, forming a giant natural canvas with the distant mountains and the nearby lakes embodying the exquisite beauty of the resort.
The site skillfully combines the gentle and delicate features of the water city of Wujiaqu with the picturesque leisure life on offer in Qinggeda resort.
