The Cittaslow International head office officially granted the title of Cittaslow to the Nan’ao sub-district of Dapeng new district in Shenzhen on June 22. Nan’ao sub-district thus becomes the first Cittaslow in China's first-tier cities and the first in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The International Slow City (Cittaslow) originated from the Slow Food movement, which was initiated by the renowned Italian journalist Carlo Petrini in 1986. In October 1999, Orvieto in Italy became the world's first "slow city". Slow cities represent a new urban development model that emphasizes finding a way to combine modern technology with traditional lifestyles in modern cities. This allows people to not only enjoy the many conveniences brought by modern life but also to have a regular and healthy, happy life.
