Shanghai film and TV festivals unveil lineups and competitions

The anticipation for the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival and the 29th Shanghai TV Festival reached a crescendo as the news conference unfolded in Beijing, revealing the eagerly awaited dates for the festivals. SIFF is scheduled to run from June 14 to June 23, followed by STVF from June 24 to June 28.

During the event, the distinguished jurors for the Main Competition and Asian New Talent categories of the coveted Golden Goblet Awards at SIFF were unveiled, alongside the lineup of jurors for the prestigious Magnolia Awards at STVF. Attendees were treated to a first look at the vibrant posters encapsulating the essence of this year's SIFF and STVF.

This year's SIFF has attracted a record-breaking 3,700 submissions from 105 countries and regions, showcasing 1,375 world premieres and 390 international premieres among the 2,224 entries. Themed "City of Film", the festival's screening activities will unfold across 47 theaters nestled in all 16 districts of Shanghai.

Emphasizing its commitment to nurturing and promoting film talent, SIFF has introduced various initiatives such as SIFF Explore, the Short Film Unit, SIFF Next, Asian New Talent, and SIFF Young, aimed at providing emerging filmmakers with invaluable practical experience. These efforts underscore SIFF's stature as a preeminent international competitive feature film festival in China.

At the 29th STVF, the esteemed Magnolia Awards received close to 1,000 entries from 57 countries and regions. Notably, the Drama section witnessed submissions of around 190 Chinese TV series, while the number of foreign TV series surged to nearly 170 from the previous year, marking a significant 53.7 percent growth. Foreign entries dominated the Documentary section, constituting 60 percent of the total submissions, with prominent contributions from esteemed international TV entities like BBC, Sony, HBO, and Warner Bros.
