Northwest Continental Slope No 1 and No 2 shipwrecks give clues to Ming Dynasty maritime trade

The only undersea archaeological discovery in China’s top 10 new archaeological discoveries of 2023, the Northwest Continental Slope No 1 and No 2 shipwrecks, relive the maritime trade during the mid-Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
The two shipwrecks were found about 1,500 meters below sea level in the South China Sea. Over 100,000 cultural relics, mainly porcelains, have been discovered on No 1 shipwreck. On the No 2 shipwreck, numerous wooden logs are neatly placed, together with a small number of ceramics.
The findings are key evidence of the overseas trade and cultural exchanges along the ancient Maritime Silk Road.
