In 2008, five boxes of different materials and sizes were discovered at the pagoda base’s underground palace of Longquan Temple in Taiyuan, Shanxi. The smallest gold box contains Sarira.

All five boxes are currently on display for the first time at the Shanxi Museum, offering a glimpse into the typical rituals of burying Buddha’s relics during Empress Wu Zetian’s reign (690-705) of the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Don’t miss out!

Exhibition dates: Feb 6-May 12
