Torch Festival, which falls on the 24th day of the sixth lunar month, is considered by the Yi people as the New Year's Day of the first half of the year. Some scholars believe that the origin of Torch Festival is related to people's worship of fire, with the aim of using fire to repel insects and pests, and protect crops. During the Torch Festival, four main categories of activities are held: sacrificial rites, cultural and sports events, social gatherings, and product exchanges.
