Xingji Meizu Group, a smart devices maker backed by Chinese auto giant Geely, officially announced it will roll out its first self-designed car MEIZU DreamCar MX.

Shen Ziyu, chairman and CEO of Xingji Meizu, said the car will be deeply customized by users, who can jointly create and define a large number of personalized details such as its paint, interior, and car theme.

The plan, unveiled by Xingji Meizu at a product launch event in Wuhan, Hubei province, shows the company, best known for its smartphones, entering the auto industry.

Shen said next year the company will launch Meizu tailor-made cars, which will not only be equipped with its self-developed in-car system Flyme Auto, but also integrate Meizu's past experience in software, design, interior, and other aspects, and sell them only through Xingji Meizu's retail channels.

Flyme Auto has already been used in the LYNK 08 vehicle, a car brand under Geely's premium arm Lynk & Co.

Xingji Meizu came into being in March as a result of the merger between the smartphone maker Meizu and Hubei Xingji Shidai Technology Co Ltd. The latter was co-launched by Geely's Chairman Li Shufu and Xingji Meizu's Shen.

Xingji Meizu's car plan came after Huawei Technologies Co, best known for its telecom and smartphone technologies, made a splash in the auto market. Cars are widely seen as the next most important mobile intelligent platform.

Shen said Huawei does have advantages in intelligence, but Xingji Meizu has deep understanding of the automotive industry, which is also its biggest advantage compared to other mobile phone manufacturers.

The cooperation between smartphone manufacturers and traditional car companies has become an inevitable trend in the technology industry, and is also the most important product concept of Xingji Meizu at present.

Xingji Meizu currently includes three major business segments: mobile phones, smart glasses, and smart cars. In addition to announcing the progress of its automotive business, Xingji Meizu Group also released its first augmented reality smart glasses MYVU and Meizu 21 smartphone.
