A grand ceremony paying homage to Huangdi, also known as the Yellow Emperor, was held in Jinyun county, Zhejiang province, on Monday. The ceremony is held for Chinese people at home and abroad to express admiration for their ancestor.
The legendary figure Huangdi, also the ancestral founder of Chinese culture, unites 1.5 billion Chinese globally, and inspires them to pursue the country's rejuvenation.
More than 500 people attended the ceremonial rituals which included beating drums, striking bells, presenting flower baskets, offering incense, music and dancing.
As Zhejiang just held the Asian Games from late September to early October, and is holding the Asian Para Games in its capital Hangzhou, the ceremony also invited athletes and coaches from the Games.
Other participants included national role models, representatives from Jinyun county's sister cities, Taiwan compatriots, people from Hong Kong and Macao, overseas returnees, and representatives from the government and companies.
The ceremony to worship the Yellow Emperor in Jinyun was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2011.
