Beijing's tourism soars during 'golden week' holiday

Beijing has received over 11.8 million tourists, an increase of 48.9 percent year-on-year in the eight-day Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday, according to data from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism on Saturday.

It's about 12.9 percent higher than the level compared to 2019, it added.

The cumulative total operating revenue was 15.57 billion yuan ($2.13 billion), a year-on-year increase of 108.2 percent and 21.9 percent compared to 2019, the bureau said.

The average per capita consume by tourists in Beijing was around 1,310 yuan, a year-on-year increase of 39.9 percent and 8 percent compared to 2019.

Among all the tourists, 5.036 million came from regions outside Beijing, with an increase of 167.5 percent and 13.9 percent compared to 2019.

It is also worth noting that during the period, Beijing received 30,000 inbound tourists, with tourism revenue reaching 420 million yuan.

Additionally, during the holiday period, a total of 2,017 performances were held in 154 theaters throughout Beijing, with an average of 252 performances per day, attracting around 550,000 spectators. The generated ticket sales reached 90 million yuan.

Compared to the same period in 2019, the number of performances, the number of spectators, and ticket sales increased by 218.6 percent, 71.5 percent and 51.1 percent respectively.
