The collaboration with prominent artist Han Shuli on a color-ink painting, A Scroll of Colorful Clouds, means great importance for Bama Zhaxi. It won the Tibetan painter a silver medal at the sixth National Fine Arts Exhibition in the early 1980s. The work introduced him to both home audiences and the world outside – he was invited to show in Europe several times.

This encouragement further consolidated his belief in the inheritance of traditional Tibetan art by exploring new techniques and styles in painting.

At Colors of Tibet, his ongoing solo exhibition at the National Art Museum of China through Aug 29, Bama Zhaxi brings together more than 40 works to show his artistic experiment. He owes his accomplishments to studying from several well-established artists of different genres including prints, gouache and ink-water painting.

Under his strokes, Bama Zhaxi rearranges and reinterprets the elements from Tibetan history and culture in a way to bring the audience a refreshing experience and meanwhile, reinforce the respect of lives.
