In the just completed Dragon Boat holiday, hot weather not only sizzled the land, but also ignited people's passion for traveling.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism said that the three-day holiday - from Thursday to Saturday - saw 106 million domestic trips made, up 32.3 percent year-on-year.

The number outperforms the same period from 2019, the time yet to be hit by the COVID-19, meaning it has restored to 112.8 percent of the same period in 2019, according to the ministry.

Also, the tourism market saw an increased revenue generated by the rising travels during the holiday.

According to the ministry, the tourism-related revenue reached over 37.31 billion yuan ($5.2 billion) during the holiday, a year-on-year rise of 44.5 percent, accounting for 94.9 percent of the same period from 2019.

Allowing for the hot weather, destinations with mild climates and those with coastal views were favored by travelers to avoid the summer heat, including the northwest provinces and regions of Qinghai, Gansu and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and Inner Mongolia autonomous region, the ministry said.
