One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of an urban apiary of Slovenian design at the Beijing Botanical Garden, which showcased a modern rendition of traditional apiaries. By introducing the apiary, the event shed light on the significance of embracing sustainable practices in beekeeping, even in urban settings.

“Slovenia has a long-standing tradition of awareness of bee protection that spans generations. It is a Slovenian belief that a passionate beekeeper is not only an overseer of honey production, but a custodian of sustainable practices,” Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in Beijing, H.E. Alenka Suhadolnik emphasized.

The Bee & Tea Day also featured an enlightening lecture by esteemed Slovenian architect Prof. Vlatka Ljubanović and Ms. Iva Sodnik, who shared their knowledge on the construction of urban beehives and the vital role of beekeeping in urban areas. This lecture highlighted the collaborative efforts of Slovenian beekeepers, resulting in the creation of new urban beehive designs.

In a gesture that ensured the transfer of sustainable practices, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia donated an urban beehive to the China National Botanical Garden. The donation symbolizes the commitment of both nations in promoting environmental consciousness and fostering a harmonious coexistence between humans and bees.
