Jade statue of a young deity from more than 1,000 years ago

Check out the Shancai Tongzi (Sudhana) statue, crafted from greenish-white jade depicting a young boy with feather-like eyebrows and round eyes, adorned in a wide-sleeved robe cinched with a waist belt. Standing on floating clouds, the boy rests his hands on his waist. Below the clouds, a tenon vertically connects the statue to a square pedestal adorned with intricate mountain and sea patterns, vividly capturing the extraordinary journey of the young pilgrim as he seeks enlightenment.

Discovered in the underground chamber of the Leifeng Pagoda in Hangzhou in 2001, the jade statue, dating back to the Wuyue Kingdom of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms (907-960), is the earliest of its kind found in China to date. It is a first-grade cultural relic from the permanent collection of the Zhejiang Provincial Museum.
