During the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), Chinese people believed that one’s spirit was immortal and could survive even after the body had perished. Accordingly, there were vivid murals in tombs to guarantee the owner’s afterlife.

Check out the murals in this Han Dynasty tomb in Dongping county, Tai’an city, Shandong province! The murals depict figurines that ward off evil, figurines of mythical beasts and immortals, as well as scenes of dancing, chicken and dogs, revealing the daily life of the owner.

You can find these murals at the Shandong Museum, to explore the earthly joy and spiritual world from more than 2,000 years ago.
