The Flower-Jumping Festival kicked off on Friday in Shanjiang township in Fenghuang county of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao autonomous prefecture, Hunan province, attracting around 30,000 residents and tourists.

The annual event, held on the eighth day of the fourth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, is a major traditional festival celebrated by local Miao people.

It has been listed as a national intangible cultural heritage and marks the long history of Miao culture.

During the festival, local Miao residents in splendid minority costumes sing cheerful folk songs and dance together to celebrate the most important day of their group.

In recent years, relying on its unique tourism resources, Shanjiang has promoted the integrated development of culture and tourism, attracting tourists from both home and abroad.
