Intl theater festival for children wows fans in Xi'an

The 8th Xi'an International Theater Festival for Children is currently being held in the city – the capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province – and it's running from April to June.

The event's organizers have invited 53 troupes from 20 countries and regions in the world to participate, with 566 performances given of 102 plays, both online and offline. Amazingly, the number of viewers has to date reached nearly 7 million.

This year's festival has maintained the event's consistent international theater standard and high-profile. During the two-month run, 80 performances of 23 outstanding children's productions will be staged.

For the first time it will also combine outdoor performances with camping tours which will have special viewing experience in tents.

In addition, the theme of this year's festival is "Fairy Tale Xi'an", and the logo and promotional video highlight a number of landmarks in the city, from ancient to modern. The aim is to lure more tourists and international audiences and get them to perceive Xi'an's youth, vigor, warmth and innocence through the various plays.

"We are committed to making the Xi'an International Theater Festival for Children a shining calling card in the cultural development of Xi'an," said Wang Lihong, president of the Xi'an Children's Art Center, the organizer of this year's event.
