At the Shuomen ancient port site in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, new archaeological finds, including architectural remnants, docks, wells, a wooden trestle, shipwrecks and more than 10 tons of porcelain items, lacquerware and brick carvings, prove the important status of old Wenzhou port on the Maritime Silk Road during the Song (960-1279) and Yuan (1271-1368) dynasties.

The dock relics and porcelain pieces discovered at the site also prove that Wenzhou used to be a main distribution center and starting port for the export of Longquan celadon, produced in the local Longquan Kiln.
