Eagle-shaped gold crown from more than 2,000 years ago

This gold crown, dating back to the Warring States Period (475-221 BC), is composed of two parts. The top part is hemispherical with a wavy edge, and is decorated with four groups of wolf-biting-sheep patterns in relief, topped by an eagle made of turquoise and gold. The other part consists of three semicircular rope-like gold bands. A crouching tiger, sheep and horse are carved at the bands’ ends.
Unearthed from Hanggin Banner, Ordos, Inner Mongolia, the gold crown is the only complete king’s crown of the nomadic tribe Xiongnu found in China to date. It is a treasure in the permanent collection of the Inner Mongolia Museum.
