The Xitou site in Xunyi county, Xianyang city, Shaanxi province, was discovered in 1943. It was proved to be the largest site dating back to the Shang (c.16th century-11th century BC) and Zhou (c.11th century-256 BC) dynasties in the Jinghe River basin.
The Western Zhou Dynasty city site, relics of copper smelting and grain storage, as well as large tombs surrounded by a trench were all discovered here during recent archaeological excavations, and provide important clues for exploring the location of “bin”, which was recorded in documents, and for research on social changes, settlement functions and the tomb system of that period.
