Chinese tech company Oppo has unveiled its latest smartphone Find X6 series, in its latest push to expand presence in the high-end phone segment amid intensified competitions.

The Find X6 series features a triple camera design, with a wide-angle lens with large 1-inch sensor, a periscope telephoto lens and an ultra-wide angle lens, as Oppo looks to dramatically upgrade its products' imaging capabilities.

Pete Lau, senior vice-president and chief product officer of Oppo, said the company has always regarded imaging as a key area, and it is also one of the company's most important strategies.

According to him, Oppo's imaging team has more than 1,000 people, and the annual research and development spending in imaging technologies exceed 1 billion yuan ($146.6 million).

Equipped with three main cameras and advanced optical technology, the Find X6 series, priced from 4,499 yuan, brings "unprecedented image quality to both photo and video shooting on all three cameras", Oppo said.

Oppo has been stepping up to strengthen its R&D prowess, as it attaches more importance to innovation in crucial technologies and aims to have a greater say in industrial supply chains.

In 2021, Oppo became the second most active Chinese patent applicant in Europe, according to the Munich-based European Patent Office. It was also one of several Chinese companies that made their way into the Top 50 in US patent rankings in 2021, data from US patent service provider IFI Claims showed.
