He Rong, who has worked for China's court system for more than 30 years, has been appointed Minister of Justice, according to a decision adopted by the country's top legislature.

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the country's top legislative body, announced the decision when it closed its session on Friday.

Before He Rong came to the Ministry of Justice, the 60-year-old native from Shandong province served as vice-president of the Supreme People's Court, China's top court, in charge of daily affairs.

She replaced Tang Yijun, who had been elected as chairman of Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, in January.

He Rong joined the Communist Party of China in 1984, and started her career at Beijing High People's Court after graduating from the China University of Political Science and Law in the same year.

Over the next 20 years or so, she worked in the capital's court system. In 2011, she came to the country's top court and two years later she became its vice-president.

From March 2017 to April 2020, she served in several major positions in Shaanxi province, including a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee, head of the provincial discipline inspection commission and deputy Party secretary of the province.

She came back to the top court to be the vice-president in charge of daily affairs in April 2020.
