A seasoned endeavourer in the realm of classic mountain-and-water painting, Gao Yun views this long-standing genre as an area where he can continue to seek breakthroughs. Yearn for the Mountain, his one-man show, now in Beijing, brings together dozens of colorful ink landscapes in testimony to his work throughout decades.

Gao received high accolades at national art exhibitions back in the 1980s and '90s which garnered him fame in the circles of academics and collectors. He says he has never been content with himself and continues to seek changes outside his "comfort zone".

Based in Jiangsu province, Gao is viewed as a leading figure to inherit the legacies of Jinling (Nanjing) school, a loose artist group emerging in the 20th century to present the landscapes of Jiangsu and delivering a scholarly temperament.

The exhibition is held at the Shi Zhu Zhai International Art Center until Sunday.
