The Shanxi Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology recently published new archaeological excavation information about a tomb group dating to the Tang Dynasty (618-907) in Datong, Shanxi province.

From June to September 2022, archaeologists conducted archaeological work in Zhijiabu village in Datong. They excavated 58 tombs and discovered 306 sets of funerary objects, including pottery, porcelain and copper items.

It is the largest number of the Tang Dynasty tombs excavated in Datong, the institute said.

The new discoveries will provide important data for studies of the politics, economy, culture and funeral customs of the Tang in the region, experts said.
