The consumption and tourism sectors of the eastern coastal city of Yantai, Shandong province experienced strong rebounds during the recently concluded Spring Festival holiday, according to data from the municipal bureau of culture and tourism.
Given that people are more willing to spend during Spring Festival, which is traditionally the peak season for consumption, the Yantai municipal bureau of culture and tourism prior to the festival issued coupons worth 2 million yuan ($294,800), which could be used for accommodation, tourism entrance tickets, cinema tickets and other entertainment activities.
Local hotels, restaurants, amusement parks, shopping malls and other venues also launched a slew of preferential packages to attract more consumers.
During the seven-day holiday, open scenic spots in the city such as the Yantai Mountain Scenic Area and the Yangma Island Tourist Resort proved popular among tourists.
The Yantai Mountain Scenic Area received 398,300 tourists during the Spring Festival holiday, an increase of 55 percent year-on-year, while the Yangma Island Tourist Resort welcomed 131,900 tourists, a remarkable year-on-year increase of about 1,480 percent.
