Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE Corp is banking on the mobile internet devices business, as part of its broader push to promote the application of superfast 5G wireless technology in a wider range of fields and bolster industrial upgrades.

ZTE ranked first in global mobile broadband and customer premises equipment or CPE markets in 2022, according to marketing research company Techno Systems Research.

CPE refers to telecommunications and information technology equipment kept at the customer's physical location rather than on the service provider's premises.

The cumulative sales of ZTE's data terminal equipment surpassed 200 million units in more than 100 countries and regions worldwide, said Bai Keke, vice-president of ZTE and general manager of mobile internet product at ZTE's terminal business division.

"We have broad development prospects in overseas markets, such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Europe," Bai said, adding that the company will further expand the deployment and commercialization of 5G networks, especially in European countries and the Middle Eastern market.

Bai said ZTE will increase investment in the R&D of core technologies. Its industrial internet terminal devices have been used in 15 industries, covering intelligent manufacturing, power supply, oil exploration and smart ports.

The 5G-empowed industrial internet solutions have played an active role in improving operational efficiency and reducing costs in intelligent factories, he added.

ZTE has accumulated notable R&D and technological innovations over the past 17 years, with a key focus on providing 5G intelligent solutions so that global users can benefit from high-speed, high-reliability and low-latency intelligent connectivity.

Bai noted ZTE has marched into the internet of vehicles sector by inking strategic partnerships with first-class car manufacturers and participating in the construction of 5G-enabled vehicle-road coordination systems in several cities, such as Suzhou, Wuxi, Shenzhen and Changsha.
