Unicorns not only exist in Western mythology, but also appear in ancient Chinese culture. A Han Dynasty (206 BC – AD 220) bronze unicorn sculpture, unearthed in Xiaheqing town in Jiuquan, Gansu province, has a detachable horn and tail. It is believed that it was used as a burial item to exorcise evil spirits in the tomb. It is in the permanent collection of the Gansu Provincial Museum.
