China's consumption recovers during holiday season

China's consumption has witnessed a fast recovery as more people resume travel, go out for entertainment and go shopping both online and offline during the holiday season, showcasing strong resilience and growth potential of Chinese economy.

During the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2022 that ended on Monday, around 73.41 million domestic trips were made in China, generating 28.68 billion yuan ($4.14 billion) in domestic tourism revenue, according to data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

In Beijing alone, the city's 199 key tourist attractions (regions) received a total of 3.83 million tourists, up 24 percent year-on-year with total operating revenue reaching 271 million yuan during the Mid-Autumn Festival, the report said.

Local tourism has become mainstream, with visiting relatives and friends, outdoor leisure, suburban tourism and rural tourism as the main types of travel during the holiday.

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, local hotel orders grew 52 percent month-on-month, and camping orders increased by more than 4 times month-on-month, People's Daily reported on Tuesday, citing data from online travel platform Fliggy.

The sales volume of key monitored department stores, supermarkets, special stores, restaurants and e-commerce business in Beijing reached 3.34 billion yuan, up 5.4 percent year-on-year, Beijing Business Today reported on Tuesday, citing data from Beijing Municipal Bureau of Commerce.

The total box office including pre-sales reached 348 million yuan from Sept 10 to 15:30 Sept 12, Beijing Business Today reported on Tuesday.

On Sept 11, the total box office of the Chinese film market, including pre-sales, exceeded the 25 billion yuan mark, with 594 million moviegoers and 76.191 million screenings, the report said.

From Sept 10 to 12, China's postal and express delivery industry operated in an overall safe, stable and orderly manner, with 852 million parcels received, up 0.24 percent compared with the 2021 Mid-Autumn Festival holiday.

Meanwhile, a total of 931 million express packages were delivered during this year's Mid-Autumn festival, up 0.11 percent from the same holiday last year, according to the State Post Bureau of the People's Republic of China.

Chinese people's enthusiasm for consumption continues toward the National Day holiday which is drawing near. Many consumers have started to book housing stays in the suburbs of Beijing for short-term travel during the National Day holiday, Beijing Business Today reported on Tuesday.
