July 17: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On July 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 154 new cases of confirmed infections (48 imported cases, 10 in Fujian province, 10 in Guangdong province, 6 in Shanghai municipality, 4 in Tianjin municipality, 3 in Chongqing municipality, 3 in Sichuan province, 2 in Beijing municipality, 2 in Liaoning province, 2 in Jiangsu province, 2 in Shandong province, 2 in Yunnan province, 1 in Hubei province and 1 in Hunan province, including 3 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Hunan province and 1 in Guangdong province; 106 indigenous cases, 53 in Gansu province, 21 in Guangdong province, 9 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 7 in Sichuan province, 5 in Anhui province, 4 in Hainan province, 2 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Jiangxi province, 1 in Heilongjiang province, 1 in Zhejiang province and 1 in Guizhou province, including 23 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 15 in Guangdong province, 4 in Hainan province, 3 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and 1 in Gansu province), no deaths, and no new cases of suspected infections.

On July 16, 94 patients were released from hospital after being cured (41 imported cases; 53 indigenous cases, 27 in Anhui province, 22 in Shanghai municipality and 4 in Beijing municipality). 14,672 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases increased by 2.

As of 24:00 on July 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 20,031 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 19,565 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 466 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on July 16, the National Health Commission had received reports of 227,426 confirmed cases and 5,226 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 220,971 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,229 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 4,438,098 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 122,049 were still under medical observation.

On July 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 537 new asymptomatic cases (63 imported cases; 474 indigenous cases, 235 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 105 in Gansu province, 42 in Anhui province, 29 in Henan province, 24 in Shanghai municipality, 9 in Guangdong province, 7 in Jiangxi province, 6 in Jilin province, 5 in Jiangsu province, 5 in Sichuan province, 4 in Shandong province and 3 in Fujian province).

On July 16, 295 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (32 imported cases; 263 indigenous cases, 138 in Anhui province, 59 in Jiangsu province, 49 in Shanghai municipality, 7 in Shaanxi province, 2 in Tianjin municipality, 2 in Liaoning province, 2 in Zhejiang province, 2 in Guangdong province and 2 in Hainan province). 26 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 3 imported cases). As of 24:00 on July 16, 3,673 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 400 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on July 16, 4,586,572 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 345,379 in Hong Kong (9,433 had died and 65,580 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 727 in Macao (5 had died and 202 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 4,240,466 in Taiwan (8,103 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
