The drama unfolds the history of Fujude, a famous roast duck restaurant between the latter half of the 19th century when it opened and the early years of the 20th century in Beijing. It praises the wisdom and hard work of the protagonist Lu Mengshi, manager of the restaurant, and his fellows; and criticizes the idleness of the upper class and decadent social conduct at that time.
