CHONGQING-A tech company in Chongqing municipality is taking advantage of the local digital and network infrastructure to step firmly into the metaverse-a virtual reality space that allows users to interact with a computer-generated environment.

In Dawa Future Imaging Technology's virtual studio, sensors are attached to a staff member, capturing his movements and creating a virtual avatar in real time. The virtual avatar can be used in video games, variety shows and other scenarios related to the metaverse.

Dawa has made solid progress in building a metaverse platform using virtual reality, extended reality and artificial intelligence technologies.

The virtual scenarios created by the company have featured in many popular movies, including Chinese war epic The Battle at Lake Changjin.

"With motion capture and extended reality technologies, we can carry out the film shooting at any hour of the day or night regardless of the weather," said Li Chao, technical director of Dawa's virtual studio.

Dawa's development in the metaverse industry has been helped to a great extent by Chongqing's advanced digital and network infrastructure.

China has the world's biggest next-generation mobile network, and Chongqing alone has built about 73,000 5G base stations. In 2021, the added value of the digital industry in the municipality increased by 27 percent, and multiple digital economy industrial parks were established.

In future, Chongqing will build an industrial park and a research institute for the metaverse, exploring cutting-edge technological innovation in the field, according to government officials.

The metaverse has become a magnet for global investment, featuring a network of virtual worlds focused on social connection. The relevant technologies are widely applied in entertainment, games, education and other related industries.
