China's health literacy reached 25.4 percent in 2021, 2.25 percentage points higher than in 2020, the National Health Commission said on Wednesday.

The rate means that about one in four people in China have acquired basic knowledge and skills on health, according to the commission.

The healthy literacy rate in urban areas stood at nearly 31 percent, higher than the 22 percent in rural regions.

The literacy rates on basic healthcare, first aid and prevention of infectious diseases also increased, it said.

These results are based on a survey involving about 67,000 people age 25 to 69 across China, the commission said.
