May 9: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 415 new cases of confirmed infections (14 imported cases, 7 in Guangdong province, 4 in Fujian province, 2 in Shanghai municipality and 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, including 2 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Guangdong province; 401 indigenous cases, 322 in Shanghai municipality, 33 in Beijing municipality, 28 in Guangdong province, 14 in Henan province, 2 in Qinghai province, 1 in Zhejiang province and 1 in Hunan province, including 236 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 230 in Shanghai municipality, 5 in Beijing municipality and 1 in Guangdong province), 11 deaths (all were indigenous cases in Shanghai municipality), and no new cases of suspected infections.

On May 8, 849 patients were released from hospital after being cured (16 imported cases; 833 indigenous cases, 645 in Shanghai municipality, 57 in Jilin province, 26 in Heilongjiang province, 23 in Jiangxi province, 16 in Zhejiang province, 12 in Beijing municipality, 10 in Liaoning province, 8 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 8 in Sichuan province, 7 in Guangdong province, 6 in Henan province, 4 in Fujian province, 3 in Hunan province, 2 in Jiangsu province, 2 in Chongqing municipality, 2 in Qinghai province, 1 in Anhui province and 1 in Shandong province). 44,163 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases decreased by 4.

As of 24:00 on May 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 18,286 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 18,128 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 158 confirmed cases (no serious cases) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on May 8, the National Health Commission had received reports of 220,040 confirmed cases and 5,185 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 206,119 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 8,736 confirmed cases (including 529 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 3,692,144 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 401,851 were still under medical observation.

On May 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 3,918 new asymptomatic cases (59 imported cases; 3,859 indigenous cases, 3,625 in Shanghai municipality, 62 in Jiangsu province, 50 in Liaoning province, 46 in Henan province, 18 in Qinghai province, 16 in Beijing municipality, 16 in Zhejiang province, 12 in Guangdong province, 10 in Jiangxi province, 3 in Jilin province and 1 in Hebei province).

On May 8, 8,628 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (88 imported cases; 8,540 indigenous cases, 8,069 in Shanghai municipality, 85 in Jilin province, 78 in Liaoning province, 66 in Jiangxi province, 47 in Shandong province, 29 in Hebei province, 27 in Henan province, 25 in Jiangsu province, 24 in Zhejiang province, 19 in Heilongjiang province, 16 in Anhui province, 16 in Yunnan province, 8 in Fujian province, 8 in Hubei province, 8 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 7 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 2 in Beijing municipality, 2 in Qinghai province, 1 in Shanxi province, 1 in Guangdong province, 1 in Chongqing municipality and 1 in Sichuan province). 238 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 2 imported cases). As of 24:00 on May 8, 92,564 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 474 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on May 8, 688,627 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 331,274 in Hong Kong (9,346 had died and 60,600 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 82 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 357,271 in Taiwan (919 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
